Turning it off for a short while
If there's a keg inside, it's best to leave the machine plugged in. Your beer stays chilled and at the right pressure, so it's ready whenever you are.
Going away, or not using it for a while?
Finishing the keg first is ideal, as that's when the beer is at its best.
If you'd rather take the keg out with beer still in it:
- Check the freshness indicator and note how many days are left.
- Take the keg out of the machine.
- Pop it upright in a clean fridge.
Keep the keg chilled and your beer will stay good for the rest of those freshness days.
Before you unplug
A few minutes here saves you a job later.
- Empty the drip tray and give it a rinse.
- Take out the tap unit and rinse it with warm water. Beer residue left behind can go mouldy while the machine's sitting unused.
- Wipe round the door seal and dry the inside of the machine.
- If there's any ice inside, leave the door open while the machine's off so it can defrost, and keep an eye on the drip tray so it doesn't overflow.
Leaving the door slightly open while the machine isn't in use helps everything stay dry.
